2025 Gene A. Budig Lecture will explore lessons from teachers and coaches

LAWRENCE — The University of Kansas School of Education & Human Sciences welcomes Jordan R. Bass, chair and associate professor in the Department of Health, Sport & Exercise Sciences, as the 2024 Budig Teaching Professorship in Special Education award recipient and featured lecturer for 2025. 

Bass will present “Guided by Greatness: Lessons from My Teachers and Coaches” at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3 in 150 Joseph R. Pearson Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Registrants who cannot attend in person have the option to join virtually. Individuals interested in attending in person or virtually are encouraged to RSVP now at rockcha.lk/budig-sp25-rsvp. Registrants will receive Zoom log in information to their email closer to the event date.

In his presentation, Bass will highlight the wisdom and guidance received from some of the most influential mentors in his life, delving into the profound impact that dedicated teachers and coaches have had on shaping his personal and professional growth. Bass will explore how the guidance from these mentors have allowed him to be successful and pass on their lessons to his own students at the University of Kansas.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be the 2024 Budig Teaching Professor,” said Bass. “I’ve had the best teachers and coaches a person could ask for and I look forward to honoring them for the roles they have played in my personal and professional journey with this lecture. Thank you to the School of Education & Human Sciences for this honor and I hope to see you on April 3rd.”

Bass’s current scholarship focuses on the organizational behavior of athletic programs, athletics place in a higher education setting, and social issues in intercollegiate athletics. Learn more about Bass online.
