Study shows athletes with better jumping ability generate faster golf club head speed

Researchers from the University of Kansas partnered with Oklahoma State University's golf program to measure jumping ability and its correllation with golf club head speed, finding athletes with better jumping ability were able to generate more speed on their swings.

KU expanding program to bring students with disabilities to college, including to Wichita, Atchison

Researchers at KU have secured a grant to expand the Transition to Postsecondary Education program. The program helps bring students with disabilities to higher education, work toward career goals and meet in-demand jobs in their communities. The work will expand outreach to educators and families across Kansas and establish similar programs at WSU Tech and Benedictine College.

Study uses GPS technology to find football practices can be up to 40% more demanding than games

Quincy Johnson, a researcher at the University of Kansas, led a study that used GPS technology to track how far and fast football players run and which positions had the most high-intensity work. They compared the workloads of practices to games, and the findings can help coaches, trainers and athletes find the best balance to properly prepare for a demanding game.

The University of Kansas Indigenous Studies Program, Office of Sovereign Partnerships & Indigenous Initiatives and School of Education & Human Sciences have partnered with Haskell Indian Nations University and Native Nations across Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma to build collaborative teacher training programs for Indian Country. Their new Southern Plains American Indian Teaching Pathways Project was awarded $1.5 million from the Office of Indian Education in the U.S. Department of Education.

Tool to help teachers use local climate data, engage students' emotions on topic proves to deepen conversations

Imogen Herrick, a researcher at the University of Kansas, created Community Science Data Talks, a tool to help teachers bring local data on climate change into the classroom. A study found that when teachers used the tool and asked students how the data made them feel, they became more engaged in the topic.

"On Bigotry: Twenty Lessons on How Bigotry Works and What to Do About It," a new book by Nicholas Ensley Mitchell of the University of Kansas, takes a critical, nonpartisan look at bigotry to help readers better understand it. Mitchell writes that bigotry is taught, and, as an education scholar, believes anything that is taught has curriculum that can be analyzed.

Study finds pitchers have thicker UCLs in elbows than other baseball players, factors that risk common injury

A University of Kansas study measured the thickness of the UCL in throwing and nonthrowing elbows of both pitchers and position players of a college baseball team. The study can showed arm slot is not correlated with UCL thickness, contradicting a common belief of throw angle contributing to the common injury.
