‘Research & Teaching Festival’ conference to be hosted for educators

LAWRENCE — The School of Education & Human Sciences at the University of Kansas will host the 2023 Research & Teaching Festival as a professional development event. The conference will be held on February 17 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. CT in Joseph R. Pearson Hall (JRP) room 150, with the option to attend in person or virtually. Sessions will focus on a wide variety of topics in the field of education & human sciences. Speakers will be given five minutes each to present on their topic, followed by five minutes for audience questions.

The agenda for this year’s conference will adhere to the following schedule:

  • 12:15-12:20 – Lisa Wolf-Wendel: Introduction
  • 12:20-12:30 – M’Balia Thomas: Forgotten Everyday Writers: A History of Black Writing in Lawrence, Kansas (1860s-1920s) (A Digital Humanities Project)
  • 12:30-12:40 – Trent Herda: The Contribution of Intramuscular Lipid Profiles on Metabolic and Physical Dysfunction in Prepubescent Youth
  • 12:40-12:50 – Meagan Patterson: Perceptions of Children’s Negotiation Behaviors
  • 12:50-1:00 – Andy Fry: Modeling Resistance Exercise - Understanding Complexity
  • 1:00-1:05 – Break
  • 1:05-1:15 – Amanda Mollet: Beyond Love Languages: LGBTQ Collegian’s Healthy Intimate Relationships
  • 1:15-1:25 – Brian Gordon: The Homefield Advantage
  • 1:25-1:35 – Jennifer Kurth: Teachers’ Perceptions and Knowledge of Schoolwide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
  • 1:35-1:45 – Haiying Long: Information about the Center for Research Methods Consultation
  • 1:45-1:55 – Jordan Bass: Development of a Youth Sport Typology

The hybrid event is free and open to the public. Individuals interested in attending in person or virtually are encouraged to RSVP now on the event page and mark their calendars. Registrants will receive Zoom log in information to the email used for registration.
